UT Southwestern Medical Center is renowned for combining attentive and compassionate care with state-of-the-art medical resources to create one of the nation’s leading health care programs for older adults. Their Geriatrics Division offers expert diagnosis by specialists who care about the needs of patients and families.

House Calls program team includes (L-R, back row) Nola Watson, C.S.A., Sherry Ray, L.V.N., Katherine Shoemaker, R.N., Carol Hampton. (L-R, front row) Heather Nemec, L.C.S.W., Amit Shah, M.D., and Natalie Garry, N.P.
Of specific interest was the information Ms. Garry provided about the Southwestern Aging and Geriatrics Education Program (UT SAGE). UT SAGE is a comprehensive initiative designed to increase geriatrics education throughout UT Southwestern Medical Center through an innovative curriculum that emphasizes patient safety and patient-centered care for the vulnerable elder.
The Geriatric Department of UT Southwestern also has a program called “House Calls” wherein they provide primary medical care to homebound individuals 70 years of age and older. Care is provided in the older adult’s home where medical staff can best integrate the efforts of family members and community resources such as traditional home-based health care.
